Our History

Founded in 1893, Cottesloe Rugby Union Football Club is Western Australia's oldest rugby club and the only original club still active today. Initially known as "The Pirates," this legacy lives on through our Juniors club.

Since moving to Harvey Field in 1930, the club has been proudly represented by the Two Blue strip, earning us the nickname "The Gulls," as reflected in our logo. Over the years, Cottesloe has grown to include teams across all levels, including a number of Men’s teams, a Women's team ("SheGulls"), and a thriving Juniors club.

Cottesloe boasts a rich history of success, with Premiership wins across decades, including in the 1980s, 1992, 2001, and 2009. Recent achievements include titles by the SheGulls and 5th Grade "All Stars" in 2013.

The club has been a launching pad for many rugby talents, producing State, Super Rugby, and International representatives. Notable players include Wallabies Dane Haylett-Petty, Ollie Hoskins, and Ryan Louwrens, along with Wallaroos Rebecca Clough and Natasha Haines, and Scotland international Nick Haining. Our coaching team also features distinguished internationals, including Richard Brown (Ex-Wallaby) and Patrick Dellit (Western Force).

Cottesloe RUFC continues to foster excellence both on and off the field, with a legacy that inspires players of all levels.
